Common Sense is like eating peanuts in a bar: Did everyone wash their hands when they reach for the jar?

Please ask yourself the question: How would I recognise a common sense consultant?
Would it be the clothes this person is wearing? The knowledge on display? Or would it be more a feeling?
When asking people the three characteristics of a common sense consultant, then the majority of people would respond with words like communication, empathy, respect and trust. Would you as well? If so, then please continue reading on this website.
This section of the No Tie Generation website explores the characteristics of the common sense consultant.

In a nutshell you are a common sense consultant when you focus on your ability to interact with people most effectively and having a clear vision of your future as a business professional.
Applying common sense is the starting point for a long term, successful and profitable career in business.

It is quite difficult to identify a common sense consultant when scanning a resume. For example, I (Isard Haasakker), currently consider myself a SAP Supply Chain Management consultant. So customers who are in need for such qualifications would imagine that I am skilled after reading that I a decade of hands on experience. That would be my hard skills. Although potentially very impressive, that does not make me a common sense consultant.

It is quite difficult to identify a common sense consultant when doing a job interview. A while a go I had your typical call from a consultancy company evaluating candidates for a contractual assignment for a SAP customer. I was not surprised that I did not get the offer as the only questions were about very specific SAP functionality. Obviously the interviewer was not considering about my work ethics and ability to quickly acquire new skills. That was a shame as that is what common sense consultancy is all about.

It is nice to be the best in your field at this moment in time. But the world will be different within a few years from now as technology advances. Therefore expect that customers desire different qualifications in the future. Expect that you will not be doing the same job in about 10 years from now. A common sense consultant is fully aware that the only constant is change. But within change there is also a constant. And discovering that constant within a changing world is what a common sense consultant wants to find. recognise the eye within the storm as there is no chaos to be found.
